Key Stage Three

During Key Stage Three, students access a wide range of teaching strategies in order to promote the best learning within the department. In Year 8 and Year 9 students focus on developing functional skills and life skills in order to develop a foundation for GCSE level learning. All pupils enjoy three hours every week during which students are encouraged to see the wider relevance of their skills and knowledge.

The modules of work include:

Year 8:

Monarchs – Power of Parliament

Dharmic religions – Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism

Jesus Project – Enquiry based learning

Local Physical Geography – Lancashire

Moral Issues – Punishment, censorship, Phone hacking, Riots

Conflict in the modern world – Northern Ireland, Middle East, Afghanistan

 

Year 9:

Armageddon – World War One, World War Two, Cold War

Ultimate Questions – Life after death, Science and Religion

 Cold water environments (Antarctica) – Expedition

Prejudice and Discrimination – Gandhi, MLK, Desmond Tutu

Matters of life and Death – GCSE Religious Studies

Believing In God – GCSE Religious Studies
