Subject Leader

Ms Wright was educated at the University of Manchester receiving a Bachelor of the Arts Honours Degree in Classical History and Sociology in 1998. She gained her teaching qualifications at St Martin’s College in Lancaster, a Post Graduate Certificate in History 11-18 years.

Ms Wright began her teaching career in Birmingham as a Teacher of History and moved to Warrington in order to take on a fuller Humanities role (teaching History, RE and Geography). Ms Wright continued her education, gaining a second Post Graduate Certificate in PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) from Edge Hill University in 2005, specialising in Sex and Relationships Education.

This allowed career progression and she was promoted to Head of PSHE, also taking a wider school focus with the Healthy Schools agenda. Ms Wright came to Stretford High School three years ago, as Head of Humanities and now takes a more whole school responsibility as the Director of Academic School – Humanities and Social Sciences.

Mrs Smith began her life at Stretford High School as Head of Humanities when the school opened in September 1990.  She’s taught lots of children since and is now teaching the children of children she taught – scary!

Obviously she loves the school and thinks it’s a special place to be.  Seeing the students learn and develop, having those ‘light bulb’ moments along the way as they into mature young adults is a privilege all teachers value.  Mrs Smith enjoys the fact that no two days are ever the same and there’s always been a new challenge ahead throughout the years spent here.

Mrs Smith now supports trainee teachers, newly appointed teachers and staff development as a whole – another exciting privilege of being involved in colleagues’, as well as students’ learning, as Stretford High continues to strive to provide the best opportunities for all in our community.

Mr Boothman is Deputy Director of Academic School – Humanities and Social Sciences; bringing a wealth of experience from a successful career in industry. Mr Boothman completed his BA (Hons) at Salford University and extended his academic career with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Mr. Boothman is a History specialist with the ability to teach a range of subjects including Religious Education, Geography and Citizenship. Mr Boothman completed an MA at Calamus International University in South Africa.

Mr Theodosiou’s  (aka Mr Theo) began his teaching career at Stretford High in 2009 where he trained in the Humanities department. He began his first full year of teaching in 2010 and helped to develop Religious Education further throughout key stage three and GCSE. Mr Theo led the development of the year 9 ‘Ultimate Questions’ Religious Education unit and was one of the first teachers to take year 11 through the GCSE Edexcel Religion and Society course.

Prior to his teaching career, Mr Theo studied his degree in Communication, Culture and Media at The University of Leeds. Beyond his undergraduate studies, he moved into a career in the media until he decided to train as a secondary teacher at Edge Hill University, specialising in Religious Education.

More recently at Stretford High, Mr Theo has spear headed the school’s first ever paranormal investigation, a film which was made especially for students – known as ‘Haunted High’. This year Mr Theo also teaches in Project 7 and has helped to develop the curriculum further and created an original ‘learning platform’ called ‘The Village’. Students are working towards developing characters and their own imaginary village community – facing challenges and scenarios that impact on village life.

Further more in the Humanities department, Mr Theo alongside Mr Ahmed has helped to develop The C.U.L.T, another ‘learning platform’ aimed at raising the achievements of GCSE Religious Education students in year 10.  In the future, Mr Theo and Mr Ahmed combined both have some ’wacky’ ideas up their sleeves. aimed to help raise the achievement and generate the interest of students in Humanities, RE and across wider school – watch this space……….enter The Portal?

In his spare time Mr Theo enjoys art house cinema, watching his favourite bands perform at gigs and festivals. He also is a keen animal lover – a staggering total of seven pets (also on the rise) – as you can imagine, his home is a very hectic place to live!!!

Mr Cooke studied at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he completed his BA Geography degree before spending too many years travelling the world. He wanted to bring both his passion for his subject and the wonders he had seen into the classroom. Having trained at Manchester Metropolitan University where he completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Education for Secondary Geography, he was lucky enough to secure a position at Stretford High School where he embarked upon what will hopefully be a long and exciting career in teaching.

He has swum in the Amazon River, froze in snowstorms in the Arctic and got lost in the Outback – he hopes his students will one day have their own adventures. Being a computer geek, Mr Cooke has also brought the geography department online – get involved in the discussion @SHSGeography!

Mr Ahmed is a recent addition to Stretford High School. He has joined the ‘Dream Team’ in September 2011 after completing his Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Edge Hill University. Mr Ahmed brings a wealth of transferable skills acquired through fruitful academic and employment careers in the public and private sector.

A keen philosopher and a strong advocate of developing students life skills. The recent uptake for the extra curricular Philosophy Club is an example of Mr Ahmed’s desire for the development of pupils’ high level thinking skills. Mr Ahmed is working with Mr Theo to integrate personal, learning and thinking skills into all modules of work across Key Stage Three and Key Stage Four.  He has contributed to the composition and execution of Key Stage Three modules of work such as ‘Moral Issues’ and ‘Prejudice and Discrimination’ and at Key Stage Four; GCSE History and GCSE Religious Education.

Mr Ahmed has a passion for new innovative Information Communication Technology (ICT) which can help to enhance learning in the classroom and simultaneously develop pupils’ functional skills. A recent addition to the newly launched Digital leaders club; Mr Ahmed is endeavouring to develop future leaders in this emerging field of industry.

Mr Ahmed enjoys basketball, cricket, reading and Arthouse cinema. He is also the NQT (New Qualified Teacher) representative for Edge Hill University and is playing a leading role in the development of the Religious Education subject specific network for Edge Hill University.
