Granada Project
Posted: February 8, 2011
The Languages department is building links with a school in Granada, Spain (http://www.jesus-maria.net/cristoyedra/). In September 2010, Miss Bolton, Miss Clark and Miss Genovese visited the school and spent time planning a joint curriculum with the Spanish teachers.
This year, all Y7 students studying Spanish will videoconference with students of the same age in Spain. They will get to know each other and talk about the topics they are studying in their language lessons.
Y9 will be practicing their speaking skills through videoconferencing and some Y10 students will be undertaking an email exchange in order to work on their writing skills.
Approach:
The projects’ core pedagogical tool will be 21st century information technologies including video conferencing. The schools will work together on developing a common ideal, incorporating collaborative project work, linguistic development and the understanding of intercultural similarities and differences.
Objectives:
- An innovative approach to Language Learning
- Increase children’s motivation to learn languages in KS3/4, and improve their intercultural understanding
- Explore the use of collaborative technologies in language teaching
- Enrich the curriculum through cross-border working
- To develop the technological and linguistic skills of the pupils to enable them to communicate more freely with their partners abroad.
